FAQs

Where are the LAN parties held?

  • LAN location will be confirmed via the LAN email.
  • It is located in a central spot close to supermarkets, fast food outlets and coffee shops.

Does it cost anything?

  • £15 Bring Your Own PC – Includes entry fee, lunch and assorted snacks.
  • £20 Rent a Loan PC – Includes entry fee, lunch and assorted snacks.

What equipment do I need?

  • A PC running Windows 10/11 x64 (32-bit Windows no longer supported)
  • Powerful enough to play modern games (Killing Floor 2 has the highest system requirements)
  • Must have a wired network card capable of 100/1000Mbps (we do not support wireless connections)
  • A flatscreen monitor/TV
  • Mouse & Keyboard (preferably wired, wireless can cause issues with lag)
  • 4 way power unit (we do provide these but bring a spare anyway)
  • A headset, ideally with a mic if you intend to voice chat in-game (NO SOUND BARS OR SPEAKERS)

Loan computers

We have 12 computers available to loan out to attendees.

Use of the loan computers is subject to the following terms and conditions:

  • Loan computers are reserved for those who don’t have a PC or whose PC does not meet the minimum specification for use at the LAN party.
  • Each loan computer has a standard desktop keyboard and mouse. You are welcome to bring your own keyboard and mouse (and if needs be your own monitor) if you would prefer to use them instead.
  • There is a £20 fee that covers entry to the LAN party, use of a loan computer and lunch/snacks.
  • Attendees using a loan computer are responsible for taking care of the loan equipment during the LAN party.
  • Any hardware damage that occurs as a result of malicious use must be paid for by the attendee responsible for the equipment.
  • We have a limited number of loan computers, so the computers are booked out on a “first come, first served” basis.

Please be aware that the loan computers are all the same specification but are built from older hardware components. In the case of most of the games we play, these computers meet the high going on medium specification for the game, but for a few games they just meet the minimum hardware requirements. For a better gaming experience, or to avoid disappointment from not being able use a loan computer, we highly recommend attendees upgrade their own computers to an acceptable spec to play our games.

What other software do I need?

We recommend having a reliable AntiVirus installed on your computer, as well as the following software needed to run the games: Microsoft DirectX, Microsoft .NET Framework (all versions recommended) and Microsoft Visual C++ (all versions from 2005 to 2015, both x86 and x64). We use TeamSpeak 3* for voice chat in games that do not have the facility built in to them

Click these links to download the additional software mentioned above:

DirectX

.NET Frameworks

Visual C++ Redistributables All-in-One

TeamSpeak 3 Client

*Please ensure you install TS3 Client and not the TS5 Beta

Drivers

To ensure games run as best as they can without issues, please ensure you update your system drivers to the latest version. We recommend updating both your PC’s chipset and graphics drivers.

An easy way to identify the chipset and GPU is to use a tool that identifies system specifications. We recommend CPUZ (www.cpuid.com) or HWiNFO (www.hwinfo.com) as both tools will highlight the chipset and GPU.

Once identified, browse to the hardware vendor website to download the latest drivers. Here are some of the most common hardware vendors:

NVIDIA

AMD

Intel
